South Korean bass-baritone ByeongMin Gil is currently the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme participant at the Royal Opera House, London. In the 2019/20 season at the Covent Garden he appears as Brühlmann in Massenet’s Werther and Youth, Lido Boatman and Waiter in Britten’s Death in Venice.
Gil was educated at the Sunhwa Arts School, Sunhwa Arts High School and Seoul National University College of Music. He participated at the Oxford Lieder Festival residential course, and took part in masterclasses with Wolfgang Holzmair, John Mark Ainsley, Roger Vignoles and Sholto Kynoch.
He has given recitals at YeongSan Art Hall, Kukje Art Hall in Seoul and the Oxford Lieder Festival. His opera appearances include Monterone in Verdi’s Rigoletto at the Maggio Musicale, Florence.
Gil’s competition successes include First Prizes in the Opera Crown International Opera Competition in Tbilisi, Otto Edelmann International Competition in Vienna, Monte Carlo Voice Masters, Toulouse International Singing Competition, Korea National Opera Competition, Dong-A Music Competition, Gwang-ju Voice Competition and Dae-gu Voice Competition, and Second Prize in the Viotti International Singing Competition.
